Quake: (Earthquake death toll climbs to 230)


ISLAMABAD: The death toll in October 26th earthquake has risen to 230. According to latest update by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 1629 people have been injured in the quake.

About 2536 houses have been damaged in the quake. According to details, one 185 people have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 30 in FATA, 09 in Gilgit Baltistan, five in Punjab and one in AJK.

1456 people were injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 59 in FATA, 30 in Gilgit Baltistan, 75 in Punjab and nine in AJK. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the earthquake damaged 2102 houses, in FATA 300, in Gilgit Baltistan 90 and in Punjab 44.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif expressing grief and sorrow over the losses of precious lives in the earthquake said that he would personally visit the affected areas and monitor relief activities.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said every possible assistance would be provided to the affected people. He thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for calling him and offering assistance for the victims of the earthquake.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt General Retired Abdul Qadir Baloch in a statement has said the government stands with the families affected by the earthquake and assured them full support. He said his ministry was taking special relief initiatives for the earthquake-affected people.

Punjab Disaster Management Authority dispatched relief goods for the earthquake victims of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a spokesman of PDMA, these relief goods include ten thousand tents, ten thousand food hampers and ten thousand blankets and five-truck loaded with five hundred twenty-kg flour bags.

He said that one mobile hospital and three medical teams alongwith 150 jawans of Rescue 1122 are also being sent to the quake-hit areas of KPK.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released 2000 tents for the quake affected people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. It has also sent 2000 blankets and 2000 floor mats for the victims.
