Railway calls contract locomotive drivers to continue operation

Karachi: Pakistan Railways continued passenger train operation by calling contract locomotive drivers after the regular drivers went on strike.

Federal minister for railways Khawaja Saad Rafique refused the demand of the railway drivers not to take action against locomotive drivers whose negligence had resulted in loss of human life. He said all other genuine demands of the drivers would be met and talks would be held to them. However, 13 protesting railway locomotive drivers were arrested and it was said that cases would be lodged against them under anti-terrorism act.

However, the railways resumes passenger operation by utilizing the services of contract drivers and trains that were stopped at different railway stations resumed their onward journey.
