LARKANA: Shah Abdul Lateef University (SALU), Khairpur, has manifold increased annual examination fees of BA, BSc, and MA rendering education useless for those students who cannot pay them. Seven years ago, MA annual examination fee was between Rs 1800 to 2000, and then it was raised to Rs 5000 and since last three years they are charging from each MA candidate Rs 9,650 due to which many poor students have left doing post-graduation.
The government is always blaming private schools, colleges and universities for arbitrarily raising fees, but it has taken no action against its own educational institutions. Likewise BA annual examination fee was between Rs2000 to 2500 and now the students are being charged Rs 7,400 for which it can only be said that government does not want its people to be literate and highly qualified.
As many as eight districts are being dealt with SALU as their students get admissions in graduation or post-graduation classes or appear in these examinations annually. The university authorities are earning millions of rupees yearly by charging exam fees only. As many as 30,000 students appear in BA, BSc and MA exams belonging to these districts. Irony of the matter is that Rs 3000 are charged separately from each student to get a degree certificate by the SALU administration which has really broken the bones of those who cannot afford such an exorbitant rates.
No one would believe that mark sheets of BA, and BSc annual exams, the result of which was recently announced, have not yet been sent to the affiliated colleges, rendering the students, who intend to study further, hapless though the MA admission date in the SALU has already expired. The students will loose their precious year for which the SALU authorities and examination controller be taken to task immediately, the parents demanded.
