Senate: (Govt fulfilling its responsibilities relating to Mina tragedy: Senate told)


ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid told the Senate on Thursday that the government is fulfilling its responsibilities relating to Mina tragedy in which a number of Hujjaj have been martyred including Pakistanis.

Responding on points, raised by leader of the opposition Aitizaz Ahsan and others, the Minister said it was a tragedy and we all grieved over the incident.

He said, on the instructions of Prime Minister, Minister for Religious Affairs is still in Saudi Arabia to pursue the matter of Pakistani Shuhada and missing Hujjaj. He said search of missing Pakistani Hujjaj is going on and their number is reducing day by day. He said photos and names of martyred Hujjaj are available on Saudi and Pakistan’s religious Affairs’ Ministries websites.

On a call attention notice, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources told the House that HOBC is a deregulated product and its prices are determined by market forces.

The notice was moved by Chaudhry Tanvir Khan regarding sale of Hi-Octane at Rs 88.90 per litre in district Sialkot whereas OGRA has fixed sale price of hi-Octane at Rs 79.79 per litre. He said the OGRA has observed that the product is being sold at high price in some areas and the organization is taking action in this regard.

Later, the House began discussion on a report of NEPRA for the year 2014-15 in which it revealed that the efficiency of the Ministry of Water and Power is very poor. The House will continue debate on the report today (Friday). Later the House was adjourned due to lack of quorum to meet again today (Friday) morning.
