Senator Haseeb refutes news about fake medicines

KARACHI: Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan on Thursday refuted a news item published in an English medium newspaper in which it was reported that 90% pharma industry in Pakistan is manufacturing fake medicines.

In a statement, he said that such news was baseless and concocted, and was published without any fact. Khan said that he never stated that Pakistan pharma industry produces 90% fake medicines. He said: “I had only talked of influx of fake medicines and their harmful implications in the country, and had demanded of the government to take stern actions in this regard.”

He further said that Pakistan pharma industry is a responsible industry, which is complying with international and national standards.

The senator said: “The number of unregistered and substandard & phony individual organizations in Pakistan is not more than 5%, while these organizations are not registered with PPMA, Ministry of Health and Drug Regulatory Authority. However, we have always raised voice against them at every forum.”
