SHC seeks govt response on petition against shifting of SM Science College


KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) for the umpteenth time directed provincial education director for colleges and additional director colleges to respond on the petition against decision of provincial government to shift Sindh Muslim Government Science College to Government Girls Degree College, Kharadar.

Two-judge bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh extended its temporary stay order against shifting of college and adjourned the hearing of case till September 10.

The petitioners – Sarfaraz Khan Intminanzai and three other students, cited province of Sindh through provincial chief secretary, Governor Sindh, Sindh Madressatul Islam University Vice Chancellor, the principal of SM Government Science College, the provincial education director for colleges and the additional director for colleges’ inspection as respondents.

Petitioners submitted that Sindh government had merged the college with the Sindh Madressatul Islam University and decided to shift the physical assets and staff of the SM Government Science College to the premises of Government Degree Girls’ College located in Kharadar.

Following the decision of government, the additional director for colleges (inspection) Karachi formally gave directions for shifting of the college to the new premises along with staff teaching and nonteaching, as well as, physical assets, they said while adding that government took such decision for creating space for art campus at the premises of college.

They submitted that shifting of the college during the ongoing session has put career of 1,500 students studying at the college in jeopardy. Thus, the petitioners requested the court to grant stay order against shifting of college to new premises and declare government’s decision as illegal.
