Sindh assembly echoes with allegation of corruption


Karachi: Sindh Assembly once against echoed with the allegations and counter-allegations of corruption and kickbacks, as the House continued its pre-budget discussion on Monday.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) lawmaker Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi alleged that the present government of Sindh was the most corrupt regime in the history of Sindh. She said the auditor general report confirms corruption of Rs22billion. She asked if the PPP leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto laid the sacrifice so that the Jiyalas of her party loot and plunder the province with their corruption.

She said the minister for the local government Sharjeel Inam Memon had told this Assembly that terrorists had been recruited in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB). She demanded that lists of these terrorists in the KMC and KWSB should be presented to the House. She asked why on some occasions, the PPPP ministers make hue and cry about these terrorists and on other occasions keep a mum over this sensitive issue. She asked if this is the reconciliatory politics of the PPPP?

She said the vital project of K-IV is delayed due to corruption and resultantly Karachi has been braving acute shortage of drinking water. She asked whose palaces were being constructed in Karachi, Dubai and Thar with this corruption money.

However, provincial minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan in his replay alleged that PML-F had remained in power for 16 years. Without naming he asked who is getting extortion of Rs20million per month from the Sawan Garfield and Rs30million per month from the Kadanwari Garfield. He asked who had made millions from changing land record in Nara Taluka and who sold the bungalow of irrigation in Sanghar for peanuts. He said he is just showing a trailer of the corruption and the whole movie is still to be presented. He said the opposition members should have courage to listen what he called ‘Ajjab corruption ki gajjab kahani.”

However, PML-F and PML-N members staged frequent protests and interrupted the proceedings of the House. Some PPPP members also stood to reply the allegations and interrupted the proceedings of the House.

Earlier, many protests were witnessed by the House.

PML-F and PML-N members protested for 11 minutes when PML-F MPA Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi wanted more time than the allotted time of 5 minutes. Due to this protest the chair allowed her 10 more minutes

PML-N MPA Sorath Thebo who had already spoken on her allotted time of 5 minutes, after the speech of Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi demanded more time for her. She protested for 5 minutes but was not allowed extra time.

PML-F and PML-N members protested for 20 minutes, when PPPP minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan started his speech and criticized the PML-F for its alleged corruption in previous governments.
