Sports: Football: SPC All-Karachi U-16 Independence Day Football Cup enters into semifinals
Karachi:Garrison Academy, 16-Star, North Youngs and North Muslim won their respective first round knock-out day and night matches on Monday and secured their respective place in the semifinals of SPC All-Karachi U-16 Independence Day Football Cup 2018 here at lush-green 16-Star Football Ground.
UP Gymkhana Football Club is organizing this two-day tournament in collaboration with District Football Association (DFA) Central.
SAFF Games gold medalist Saleem Patni, who is also Secretary DFA Central was the chief guest during the opening ceremony of the tournament. Vice President DFA Central Mohammad Shamim and several others were also present on the occasion.
The opening match between Garrison Academy and Gulshan Soccer Academy ended in a goalless draw but the former team prevailed 3-1 in penalty kicks.
In the second match, venue host 16-Star outclassed its opponent Young Mala Academy recording a formidable 4-0 victory. Mohammad Huzaifa and Mohammad Usman scored two goals each for the winners in the match.
North Youngs FC overpowered Mohammadi Baloch Football Academy by 4-2 score on penalty kicks after the regulation time ended in a goalless draw.
In the last and the most exciting match of the day, North Muslim Academy defeated FC Al-Qadir Academy by 2-0 score – thanks to Mohammad Shayan, who scored both the goals for the winning team.
According to Organizing Secretary Riaz Ahmed, the purpose of the tournament is to promote football as well as healthy activities in the backdrop of patriotic sentiments, which reach zenith on Pakistan’s Independence Day.
“By keeping our youth involved in healthy activities, we cannot only help them keep themselves healthy and active but also help them keep away from unsocial activities,” he said.
All of the eight teams were present during the opening ceremony and participated in singing national anthem of Pakistan amid patriotic zest and zeal.
DFA Central Secretary Saleem Patni lauded UP Gymkhana and sponsors Sports Promotion Company (SPC) for taking keen interest in promoting football from grass-root level.
Vice President DFA Central Mohammad Shamim on the occasion said that more organizations should come forward to support football in the country and help in promoting the healthy game among the youth of the nation.
In semifinals, 16-Star Academy will take on Garrison Academy while North Muslim Academy will battle with North Youngs FC for a place in the summit clash of the tournament on August 14.
