Karachi: Renowned Golfer Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad grossed 209 on the final day and clinched Bank Al Habib’s 4th Rashid D. Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Tournament here on Sunday at Karachi Golf Club.
Among all, 41 players teed off on final day of the tournament competing for the highest award for Rs. 385,000. Waheed Baloch of Karachi Golf Club was the runner up with 209 gross.
Vice Admiral Arifullah Hussaini Commander Karachi and President Karachi Golf Club was the chief guest at the awards ceremony. Bank Al Habib’s CEO and MD Abbas D. Habib distributed prize along with the chief guest.
Arifullah Hussaini said the golf future is bright in Pakistan as number of professional players is increasing throughout the country from various walk of lives.
He urged that there is a need to groom youngsters to participate into golf tournament and represent their cities and departments at national level games. In this way, it is expected that Pakistan’s player could participate in the global contest of golf soon in future.
He said the prize money of the top five players have been doubled to Rs 0.1 million from Rs 50,000 in order to encourage them to continue playing golf to meet international standards.
Hussaini thanked Bank Al-Habib and its Habib family for their dedicated efforts to promote golf in the country.
