KARACHI: Special Assistant to CM Sindh for Culture and Tourism Sharmila Faruqui said that culture department is taking all possible and feasible steps to improve the condition and system of libraries and cultural complexes.
She said that our main focus is to revive reading and library culture which is dying due to digitalization. In this regard, several schemes are under consideration to provide updated and user demanding books, up-gradation and renovation of libraries, installation of air-condition and UPS and availability pure drinking water etc. This she said while presiding over a meeting at her office to examine and evaluate the performance and issues facing library and cultural complexes in Sindh.
Sharmila also said that book reading habit should only be revived if we will provide all basic facilities in all public libraries of Sindh. She listened and noted all the issues and problems faced by the libraries and their officers in rural Sindh.
Faruqui directed the Secretary Culture, Tourism and Antiquities to transfer and provide lower staff in all libraries and offices where needed. She urged the officers to arrange activities for the promotion and preservation of culture and heritage. She said that there must be a feedback or complaint boxes in all libraries so that we can judge the real needs and problems of people.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Niaz Ali Abbasi, Director General Culture Manzoor Kanasro, Additional Secretary Bashir Brohi, Special Secretary Saleem Solangi, Director Bashir Abro, Ayub Jamali, Mohammad Shah Bukhari, and others.
