Peshawar: The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association (KPCA) have jointly organized the Tour de Galiyat National Cycling Race to attract domestic tourists to the scenic Galiyat region and also send a message of peace to the outer world.
A meeting to review the arrangements for the event was held on Wednesday with Secretary Sports, Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, Museums and Youth Affairs Department in the chair.
Additional Secretary Muhammad Tariq, Managing Director (TCKP) Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Deputy Secretary Adil Safi, Director General Sports Mian Adil Iqbal, Advisor Tourism TCKP Dr Ali Jan, General Manager (TICs) Mohammad Ali Syed, Section Officer Sports Haseeb Khan and KPCA Secretary Taifur Zarin attended the meeting.
Around 100 cyclists are participating in the race. The race will kick off from Sports Complex Islamabad at 10am on October 13 and reach Nathiagali in Galiyat via Havelian and Abbottabad cities on October 14.
The concluding ceremony will be held at Nathiagali and Advisor to KP Chief Minister Amjad Afridi, Inter-Provincial Coordination Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada and KP Secretary Sports & Tourism Azam Khan will attend the event.
Speaking at the meeting, MD TCKP Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said that cyclists from across the country were taking part in the race which will give a positive message to the world about peace and tourism in KP province. The event, he added, will also attract domestic and international tourists to the province.
The official said that the TCKP was working on various programmes, including identification of new tourist sites and their development on modern lines, to lure more tourists to the province.
