Three profiteers jailed, 94 fined Rs143500


KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 94 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 143500 fine for selling commodities above government rates, while three others were jailed.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 33 milkmen, 27 shopkeepers of general commodities, 30 chicken sellers, two vegetable sellers and two fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while three persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
