Transporters concerned over reemerging of encroachments

KARACHI: President Karachi Transport Action Committee Muhammad Ashraf Banglori on Sunday expressed grave concern over reemerging of encroachments in the metropolis and demanded of the high ups to eliminate mess of encroachments on regular basis for smooth flow of the vehicular traffic.

In a statement, he said that last month, an operation was conducted against encroachments on busy roads of the city but within two weeks, the same were re-established in Sadar, Liaquatabad, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Tariq Road.

He said that due to the encroachments, traffic flow was being affected. “Traffic police, regional police and city administration are responsible for re-establishing of the encroachment,” he accused.

Banglori said that severe traffic jam in the city despite construction of many flyovers and bridges was a moment of thinking for the high officials. “Ramazan is near and if the situation remains the same, citizen will be compelled to break their fast on roads,” he added.

He urged provincial government, traffic police officials and city administration to give special attention to remove encroachments from busy roads so that the traffic jams could be avoided during holy month of Ramazan.
