KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to Managing Director of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) to file comments on a petition against water shortage in Pakistan Railway Cooperative Housing Society.
SHC bench headed by Justice Irfan Saadat took up the petition filed by the society’s residents who moved the court against water shortage by KWSB.
The petitioners submitted that in 1991, their society was awarded one-inch diameter water connection pipe line by KWSB. “In 1991 there was only 26 houses in the society and now the numbers of houses in the society has increased to 131 but there is still one-inch pipe line which is not enough for the society’s present demand,” the petitioners submitted.
The residents Pakistan Railway Cooperative Housing Society submitted that they are constrained to buy water up to Rs 3,000 weekly due to this shortage. KWSB is not providing us water but regularly sends water bills.
Citing chairman and MD of KWSB and others as respondents, the petitioners prayed to the court to direct KWSB to provide water to them.
After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to Attorney General and respondents to file their comments on the next hearing.
