Workshop on parliamentary reporting held


KARACHI: Senior Education Minister of Sindh Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Tuesday that Sindh Assembly had performed its role for making of Pakistan, and it is also performing its role for betterment of the province and the county.

He said media is playing its due role in covering proceedings of assemblies and people are informed about the performance of assemblies.

He was expressing his views in a workshop entitled with “Parliamentary Reporting Workshop”, organized by Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) at Sindh Assembly.

He said it was first time in a history of Sindh Assembly that all TV channels were given rights to directly cover the assembly proceeding as people could judge that the role of assembly. He said the journalists who come here for reporting should know about the assembly rules as they could understand the matters properly.

Suggesting the participants regarding parliamentary reporting, H A Khanzada said parliamentary reporting is a serious reporting and no reporter should get it lightly. He said every word of parliamentary proceeding should be conveying as it was spoken.

He said honesty, authenticity and balance must be in reporting. He said reporting should not be unilateral but cover all aspects.

Pakistan Federal Union of journalists (PFUJ) Karachi President Idress Bakhtiar said some non-media persons were imposed in the media houses and due to this factor, the image of journalism is being distorted.

During workshop reporters Tariq Mueen, Aslam Khan, Idrees Bakhtiar, Fazil Jamili, Rizwan Bhatti, Afsar Imran and General Shoaib Khan replied the questions of participants.
