KARACHI: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) administration said on Monday that it has received 60 applications of PhD holders against 10 posts of professors and associate professors.
It has been said that just after receiving university status for SMI in 2012, the Selection Board could not yet be formed, therefore, the vice chancellor of the newly established SMIU while using his emergency powers selected professors, associate professors and other officials on contract basis to make the university functional.
After some months, when the Selection Board was formed with honourable retired judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas and Justice (retd) Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, Chairman of Sindh Public Service Commission and former cabinet secretary AD Qazi, as its members, all appointments, did after formation of the board, have been made through it.
In addition to it, SMIU decided to appoint all professors and associate professors through the Selection Board. Thus, it called applications from PhD holders for the posts of professors and associated professors through advertisement published on 24th November 2013 in various newspapers. In its response, 60 PhD holders have submitted their applications against the said posts.
Before it, the Selection Board had selected Dr Rukhsar Ahmed as professor Department of Business Administration on a vacant post. Likewise, other appointments will also be made through the Board on merit basis.
