KARACHI: On the directives of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the crackdown against profiteers selling milk, poultry and other edible items to citizens at exorbitant rates was continued by deputy commissioners of five district and assistant commissioners of all subdivisions of the metropolitan.
A report released by Commissioner Karachi office on Wednesday said that 18 milkmen, 02 fruit sellers, 40 vegetable vendors, 08 edible item retailers, 42 poultry shopkeepers, and 04 flour sellers were challaned and fined for selling their commodities at exorbitant rates and in violation of government prices. He said that 17 shopkeepers were arrested and jailed for this menace.
Karachi commissioner said that a total of 114 profiteers were challaned with imposition of Rs 214,100 fine in the crackdown. He said that the actions against profiteers would be continued till they ensured sale of their commodities at fixed rates.
