KARACHI: Society for Conservation and Protection of Environment (SCOPE) and National Peasants Coalition of Pakistan (NPCP) is organizing a regional conference on experience sharing on land rights advocacy on 26-27 September 2013 at a local hotel in Islamabad. The conference is sponsored by International Land Coalition (ILC), Oxfam Pakistan and other international institutions. It will be followed by a two-day training workshop on land right advocacy.
Twelve delegates from Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Philippines and Indonesia, and parliament members of Pakistan, including Taj Hayder, Ms Mehreen Anwar Raja, Rasheed Godial, Haji Adeel, Engr Hameedul Haq and Ms Saeeda Iqbal are participating in the conference.
The major objectives of the regional conference and national capacity building workshop on land right advocacy is to march towards a comprehensive land and agrarian reform in Pakistan, with a specific objective of capacity building of land right activists in the country through experience sharing and advocacy training provided by national facilitators, as well as by selected ILC Asia members.
Organization of this regional event will generate a motivational process which will support the ultimate cause of land and agrarian reforms in the country.
Representatives from ILC members from Nepal, Indonesia; Bangladesh, Philippines and Cambodia will participate as resource persons/session facilitators in the training workshop of Pakistani counterparts on 27th September.
SCOPE has been an active member of ILC working on a long-term programme which aims at strengthening land rights based advocacy work of grassroots organizations. SCOPE has been instrumental in establishing National Peasants Coalition of Pakistan (NPCP), a national coalition of peasants’ and other CSO support organizations in Pakistan.
SCOPE has been working with ILC Asia node on various aspects of land governance strengthening programs such as development of advocacy tools, initiating dialogue on food security and land reforms, land watch initiative and scoping studies on land grabbing, food security and other related subjects.
