18,000 children get treatment every month at NICH

Karachi: Executive Director National Institute of Child Health (NICH) Prof Jamal Raza on Saturday said that overall performance of Institute has been improved with the cooperation of philanthropists and hectic efforts of hospital management.

He told PPI here that around 18,000 children get free of cost stat-of-art treatment facilities from different wards of hospital every month due the efforts of hospital management and donors support. He said in past, 8,000 children got treatment from the hospital every month and now this figure had doubled as compared to the past.

He informed that new Day-Care Surgery Center would be made functional soon in hospital to facilitate patients visiting hospital from far-flung areas of Sindh province. He said poor families of interior Sindh could not afford the expenses of hotels or rented houses, therefore, the hospital management keeping it in view, had established Day-Care Surgery Center at NICH to handle the complicated cases of children in a day.

He said NICH recently opened new emergency ward in hospital equipped with latest facilities and skilled staff in order to provide best available treatment of children. He said construction of new playground for visiting children patients is also underway with aim to provide healthy atmosphere in hospital.

Raza said many healthcare hospitals and government high-ups were also planning to introduce NICH policy across the province to improve the performance of hospitals under public-private partnership policy. He said NICH performance could be compared with Aga Khan Hospital and other private hospital.

He said administration had handed over the security to private security guards and installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in different wards of hospital to monitor the overall security of NICH. He said Command and Control Room (Security) has also been established in hospital to stop the kidnapping cases of children patient in the premises of hospital and harassment of staff members.

He said some people with vested interests had launched propaganda against administration for handing over the administrative powers of different wards of hospitals to donors. He said such people should compare the performance of hospital as compare to past. He said all steps have been taken by the NICH administration in better interest of institution and general public.
