Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 46% of Pakistanis are of the opinion that students should study programs that interest them; 45% say employment opportunities should be a consideration.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Some people think the educational programs students decide to undertake should be influenced by practical considerations such as the possibility of employment whereas others think students should study those programs they enjoy studying most, regardless of practical considerations.
Which stance do you support?” Responding to this, 46% said that students should choose programs that interest them and 45% said that they should keep employment opportunities in mind. 9% did not respond.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2626 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during July 22, 2013 – July 30, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
