Abbas briefs French FM on latest developments in Palestine

Ramallah Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday briefed visiting French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the impasse facing the peace process due to Israeli measures and US positions.

Abbas said the United States has ended its role as an honest mediator after recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and its threats to cut aid to the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian president stressed the importance of holding an international peace conference to form an international mechanism to sponsor the peace process and recognize the independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders as a way out of the stalled peace process.

He expressed appreciation of France's permanent support for the Palestinian people and its efforts in convening the Paris Peace Conference. He thanked the French government and people as well as President Emmanuel Macron for his country's firm stance toward the two-state solution and the resolutions of international legitimacy.
