Abbas renews calls for international conference to revive peace process

Ramallah Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated on Thursday evening his call for an international conference to revive the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, leading to a multilateral international mechanism for peacemaking.

The president told the third session of the Fatah Revolutionary Council in Ramallah that the Palestinian leadership adopted a vision for peace based on the foundations of the international community and that the leadership responded positively to international efforts to salvage the peace process during the recent meeting of the UN Security Council, WAFA reported.

That there is a growing international acceptance of the need to expand the sponsors of the peace process, so as to ensure an international cover for achieving peace and stability in the region and the world through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, he said during the session.

President Abbas also reiterated his commitment to achieving intra-Palestinian reconciliation as a supreme national interest that must be achieved by all means.
