Karachi: A large awareness walk was held in Larkana to mark the World AIDS Day 2013 on Friday.
The walk started from the office of the Medical Superintendent, Chandka Medical College Hospital and terminated at Larkana Press Club after marching on various roads. It was participated by large number of doctors, scouts, students and civil society members. They were holding banners & placards in their hands.
The theme for this year is “getting to zero: zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths”.
Larkana district is considered hub of Intravenous Drug Users (IDUs) in Sindh province, who are carrying this HIV deadly disease and they are spreading it because drugs are freely available here. So far 425 HIV positive persons have been registered at the HIV Treatment Center established at Chandka Hospital by the Sindh AIDS Control Programme.
