KARACHI: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Peoples Party has congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) and wished its success in ensuring both freedom of press and freedom of expression.
It may be recalled that Mujeebur Rahman Shami, the chief editor of Daily Pakistan, Lahore, were elected as the council president and Dr Jabbar Khattak, the chief editor of Daily Awami Awaz, Karachi, as its general secretary.
Bilawal said despite the advent of electronic and social media as swift source of information, the importance of print media remains intact for fairly edited contents. He hoped the newly elected office-bearers of CPNE would highlight the urge for increasing the level of media literacy among readers.
He assured CPNE cabinet of full cooperation from PPP in their endeavours for improvement and progress of press and editorial freedom.
