KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah presided over the first meeting of Special Economical Zone Authority SEZA at CM House here on Tuesday.
CM formally approved two projects including Khairpur Special Economic Zone and Mobile City project of Karachi to the Board of Approval BOA of SEZA of federal government for the approval.
CM has granted Rs100million as seed money to further strengthen and equip the authority for its success. He was briefed about the present status of authority.
Syed Qaim Shah ordered to expedite the work on ongoing projects of SEZA and also to prepare feasibilities of such projects for other areas of the province. He said that this model of development would attract investment and promote better infrastructure.
He said that PPP government had adopted multidimensional policies not only to boost the foreign investment but also to raise the living standard of the people. He directed the officers to ensure that the benefits of investment in public and private sector would be trickled down up to grassroots level.
The chairman of Sindh Investment Board, Zubair Motiwala briefed the CM and said that SEZ would be a blanket term for various types of specialized zones with specific types of enterprises operating in a well defined geographic area, where certain economical activities would be promoted by a set of policy measures that were not applicable for the rest of the country.
While briefing on Khairpur project, Motiwala said that SEZ would be established over 140 acres of land at the cost of Rs1488million, where 55% work of infrastructure has already been completed. He said that a Marble City project would be established on 300 acres of land.
