Peshawar: Advisor to Chief Minister on Economic Affairs and Head of Investment Promotion Cell Rafaqatullah Babar has revealed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to prepare comprehensive Urban Strategic Development Plan for the seven big cities viz Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Mingora, Bannu and D.I.Khan adding that the planning will cover urban management to cater the long term urban needs in wake of the mushroom growth in population in the next 25 years. He said Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has already issued necessary directives to the concerned quarters for preparing visionary urban policies.
He was addressing as chief guest on the occasion of the consultative workshop on Urban Strategic Development plan 2035 held in Peshawar. The workshop was arranged by Urban Policy Unit of P&D department while experts and panels from Local Government Department, Peshawar Municipal cooperation and other concerned quarters attended the workshop in large number.
Highlighting the salient features of the urbanization planning, Babar said that the strategic plan included vision, strategies and measures for the growth and development, improved economic productivity and growth management, efficient land use planning, improved mobility, accessibility across the regions, poverty reduction, access to basic services, improved urban environment, disaster risk management, infrastructure maintenance, restoration and conservation of historical sites, promotion of local culture and all other urban facilities in those cities. He stressed the need of proper planning and strict implementation of the development and construction by-laws and policies.
