Daska Civil Hospital without necessary medical facilities


SIALKOT: The newly established Cardiology and Urology departments at Daska DHQ level Civil Hospital is without the basic facilities of labs, instruments, machinery and staff as well due to which the local heart and kidney patients are facing great ordeal in their treatment in it.

In the beginning of December 2013, after the decade long wait by the local people, the provincial health department had established these departments in this Civil Hospital in hurry, first time in its history without providing the necessary instruments, machinery and staff.

It is worth mentioning that now both of the Cardiology and Urology departments have been working without facilities of machinery, medical equipments. The visiting local patients were forced to go to the local private laboratories for further treatment, though the number of the outdoor patients was growing day by day.

The provincial health department had appointed a specialist cardiologist Dr. Zaheer ud Din Babar and urologist Dr. Muhammad Abdul Majid Umer at the newly established cardiology and Urology departments in this hospital for providing the latest medical treatment of the heart and kidney diseases to local patients at local level.

Local doctors said the cardiology department of the hospital is in dire need of trained doctors, staff nurses and paramedics in cardiology, central Monitoring system, central oxygen system, beds mobile and adjustable, preferably electrically operated and easily removable, head board, defibrillator at least 2-Synchrolized Defibrillator and external pacemaker’s device, temporary pacemaker at least x2, resuscitation trolley one of the aforementioned defibrillator and drugs, besides backup equipments necessary for cardio-pulmonary resuscitation/ intubations and bags mask ventilation to achieve high flow and for providing better healthcare facilities to the patients of Daska region through ensuring the proper functioning of Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at the hospital.

The cardiology department was also lacking ventilator system, portable ventilator and anesthetic assistance during mechanical ventilator support. It also requires cardiac message board one for every 3-4 beds, aspiration system x1, IV infusion pumps x2 for one bed, 12 leads ECG machine, blood glucose monitoring device, Serum Electrolytes & Cardiac Enzyme Lab facility, preferable ICU backup and Echo Machine as well.

There is also the shortage of the medicines in this hospital’s emergency, children health care, women health, cardiology and urology departments, due to which all the patients are asked to buy the needed medicines from the local private medical stores. The early betterment in the working of these department and appointment of the vacant posts of paramedics ar direly needed for providing the better medical and health cover to the local patients at the local level.

When contacted, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Sajjad Nabi Sayyan said that he had brought this situation into the notice of EDO Health Sialkot Capt (Rtd) Dr. Zia ul Hassan for the early remedy in this regard.
