1971 War-era bomb explodes near Umerkot; Four injured


UMERKOT: A small bomb exploded at an agriculture filed in village Badeh Seer in Taluka Dahili near Umerkot on Wednesday, leaving four people seriously injured.

The low-intensity bomb, which has reportedly been installed into the filed during 1971 Indo-Pak War, exploded today when a farmer, Ghulam Hussain, was levelling the field for growing new crop after recent rainfall in Tharparkar district. The injured were rushed to Umerkot hospital, and after first medical aid, they were shifted to Hyderabad for further treatment. The injured were identified as Ghulam Hussain, Saddam, Umeed Ali, and Mohammad Bachal.

On information, personnel of law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene and started probe into the blast. It is reported that some bombs dumped into the field during 1965 and 1971 Wars were also recovered in the past. However, this is for the first time that such a bomb has exploded.
