LARKANA:,,, Out of 851 blood pints collected during the 61st birthday commemoration of slain PPP Chairperson Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, 350 pints were handed over to Thalassaemia Centre of the Chandka Medical College Hospital, 500 to private blood bank known as Sukkur Blood Bank and 100 to Central Laboratory of the CMCH, reliable sources disclosed here on Tuesday.
PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had announced that all donated blood would be given to the forces fighting terrorists in North Waziristan carrying out operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The blood pints were collected at various blood donation camps established by the CMCH & district health authorities during the event throughout Larkana district which include Garhi Khuda Bux where Sindh Chief Minister, Sindh Assembly Speaker, MNAs, MPAs and other party workers donated their blood to mark the day.
The camps were conducted with effect from 21st June to 23rd June, 2014. All the collected pints were kept in cold storage at DHO office, sources said. The 574 pints were collected from Garhi Khuda Bux camp on 21st June, 128 from all camps established in various Talukas of Larkana district on 22nd June and 149 pints were collected on 23rd June at Central Lab etc.
In GKB camp a total of 848 activists of Pakistan People’s Party were screened out of which 20 were detected suffering from Hepatitis B, 07 from Hepatitis C and two were found HIV positive. In all 573 pints were collected. Nobody knows why a private blood bank known as Sukkur Blood Bank was given preference over Thalassaemia Centre patients of CMCH.
