SIALKOT: Food Department has started the spray of pesticides to save as many as 3175000 bags of wheat (worth of Rs. 12.32 billion) from seasonal insects and pesticides in this rainy season.
This big quantity of wheat was lying stored in as many as 150 official godowns in Gujranwala Division’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.
According to the senior officials, the said spray will continue for a week and after this spray all of these godowns would be closed for three weeks.
The Punjab government has provided the pesticides (worth of Rs. 50 million) for this spray, saying that the special vigilance teams were checking the spray process being carried out in the official godowns on the reports of the concerned District Food Controllers (DFCs) regarding the possible and feared attacks of the seasonal insects and pesticides on wheat yield.
