SIALKOT: All Pakistan Furniture Manufacturers Association on Monday urged the government to give direly needed subsidy and relaxation in import duty levied on the import of the woods to be used in furniture manufacturing.
They also urged the government to ensure minimum levy of tax on furniture raw materials in the coming fiscal budget in a bid to flourish the furniture industry of Pakistan.
The leaders of All Pakistan Furniture Manufacturers Association including Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Imran, Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Saeed Mughal, Chaudhary Mohammad Naeem and Haji Mohammad Ishaq pointed that the former government had decided to establish Wood Banks and Wood Working Centers to boom up the furniture industry, but there was no implementation on this project.
They said that the early establishment of the wood banks and wood working centers was direly needed to increase the furniture exports from Pakistan, saying that the government should immediately slash the import duty on the import of the woods for furniture to curb the menace of shortage of the wood.
They said that the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhawah should also provide the woods from KPK to the wooden furniture manufacturers , if KPK Government provides woods for furniture then there would be no need to import the woods for furniture manufacturing in Pakistan.
