SIALKOT: There were only 1500 police personnel in all the 28 police stations in Sialkot district for safeguarding as many as 4.5 million population of Sialkot district.
As the ratio of police security was only a single policeman for each more than 3000 people in Sialkot district, amazingly. Sialkot District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Shehzad Asif disclosed this while talking to the newsmen at Daska-Sialkot here on Tuesday.
DPO claimed that though the Sialkot district police had been facing acute shortage of the policemen, however, the performance of Sialkot district police was going well regarding crime control as it was striving to dispense early justice to the needy, oppressed and depressed poor people.
He pointed out that Sialkot district had 4.5 million population and it had only 1500 policemen for the whole of its population. While, the neighbouring Gujrat district had only 3.5 million population and there were more than 5000 policemen in Gujrat district.
He added that the survey was underway to select the suitable lands for establishing the own buildings for all those police stations in Sialkot district, which had been working in the rented places , as the Punjab government had agreed to provide the needed grants for establishing the own buildings the police stations working in the rented places in Sialkot district.
He also sought active public cooperation in crime control and maintaining peace and inter-sectarian harmony in the region, besides, asking the religious clerics belonging to all the schools of thought to ensure the limited use of the loudspeakers in mosques, churches , Imambargahs, religious seminaries and other places meant for worship, obeying the official ban , in this regard.
He said managements of all the religious seminaries in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Bhopalwala, Uggoki, Pasrur, Chawinda , Badiana and surrounding areas had started the registration of their students.
