Drought-hit people still suffer from lack of relief

Kot Ghulam Muhammad: People continues to suffer from severe shortage of food, water and medicines in Tharparkar district. The government and NGOs are providing food and other relief items in drought-hit area of Thar but a large number of women nursing their sick children and hungry people are awaiting food in villages.

The population of Tharparkar district is about 1.6 million living in scattered villages. People depend on rain for growing food crops and fodder. Though the district receives some rain in November last year, yet it was scattered and not enough to irrigate land.

Tharparkar has been hit by drought and the Sindh government has declared it a calamity-hit area. The district lacked proper healthcare facilities
