Inter-university boxing: Seven varsities qualifies for final


JAMSHORO: All Pakistan Inter-University Boxing Championship 2014, organized by the Directorate of Sports, University of Sindh (SU) Jamshoro in collaboration with Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), is underway at Hyder Bux Pavilion of the University of Sindh Jamshoro wherein semi-final boxing competitions were held on Sunday.

Seven universities, including Sindh University (SU), Karachi University (KU), University of Central Punjab (UCP), Punjab University (PU), Balochistan University (BU) Quetta, Iqra University (IU) Karachi, International Islamic University (IIU) Islamabad remained unbeatable in the semi-final competitions and qualified for the final.

On 2nd day, the semi finals took place; the boxers of Sindh University won their bouts, and qualified for the final. Thus University of Central Punjab (UCP), Karachi University (KU), Punjab University (PU), Sir Syed University Karachi (SSU), Balochistan University (BU), Iqra University (IU) Karachi and Islamic University (IU) Bahawalpur were declared as successful in semi-final competitions in different KG weight category to qualify for the final.

Boxers who won their bouts and qualified for the finals of the 49kg category are: Syed Mahroz of SU and Sheroz Kachi of KU. Those who qualified for the final from the 52kg category are: Syed Waqar of SU and Shehryar Kacchi of KU.

From the 56kg category, Alf Arsalan of SU and Shahzeb of UCP won their bouts and qualified for the finals.

Again, Tahir Ansari of SU and Mohsin Khan of BU qualified for the final in the 60kg competition after winning their semi final bouts.

In the 64kg, M. Hussain of SU and M. Adnan of Iqra University qualified for the finals.

In the 69kg category, Mohammad Zubair of IIU Islamabad and Aamir Khan of PU won heir bouts.

Thus, from the 75kg category, Tahir Khan of SU and Safian Prince of UCP qualified for the final. From the 81kg category, Wasim Salim of PU and Zulfiqar Nain of UCP won their bouts. In the 91kg category, Imran Khan of SU and Junaid Mushtaq of PU defeated their arch-rivals in the semi final.

Similarly, in the 91+ (above 91) category, Abdul Waheed of BU and Mohammad Arsalan Azam of PU declared successful in their bouts.

On the occasions, among others Director Sports SU Mohammad Akram Ansari, Deputy Director Sports SU Ajved Ahmed Bhatti, SU Spokesman Nadir Ali Mugheri, officials of PBF and a large number of spectators were present.

The final competitions will be held today at Hyder Bux Jatoi pavilion of the University of Sindh. Commissioner Hyderabad division Jamal Mustafa Syed would participate as chief guest at the closing ceremony.
