Larkana’s garbage-sewerage issue: SHC issues notices to city officials

LARKANA: A constitutional petition has been filed by Advocate Rafique Ahmed Abro in Sindh High Court (SHC) Circuit Court, Larkana, on Tuesday, against respondents District Health Officer, Taluka Municipal Administration, Deputy Commissioner Larkana, Director, Malaria Control Programme, Director General Health Services Hyderabad, Secretary Local Government and Secretary Health Department Karachi.

In the petition, the petitioner has submitted that due to mismanagement and carelessness of the respondents, the condition of Larkana city has become worst as there are many open manholes in the city and almost all the streets of localities are littered with garbage and sewerage.

He further stated that it is the prime duty of respondents to provide all basic necessities of life to every citizen, but in this case, the inhabitants of Larkana and its surroundings have been deprived of facilities, including healthcare, resulting in breeding of mosquitoes, dengue, fungus and other insects which are increasing day by day.

The citizens and its adjoining areas are being affected by Malaria and other infections, but the respondents are reluctant to take necessary measures against Malaria. He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to take necessary measures for better health of inhabitants including anti-malarial spray and cleaning of city.

The petition was admitted for hearing, all the respondents were issued notices and the matter will be heard on April 20, 2016. Justices Abdul Rasool Memon and Anwar Hussain heard the petition.
