Lawyers boycott courts


QUETTA: Lawyers observed Protest Day in Balochistan including Quetta against torture of lawyers and registering cases against them. They demanded release of arrested lawyers and registration of cases against senior officers of police. If their demands were not met, they would adopt tough course of action.

According to details Police arrested two lawyers Naseebullah Tareen and Askar Achakzai for manhandling police officials at Mannan Chowk and lodged them at Bijli road police station.

A meeting of Supreme Court Bar Association, Balochistan Bar Association, Balochistan Bar council and other bodies was held at Balochistan High Court Bar Room.

Addressing the meeting lawyers said that a lawyer was tortured unjustifiably by police men at District Kutchery here yesterday. Raids at the residences of lawyers and their arrest are condemnable. A judicial inquiry into the incident should be conducted and senior police officers should be placed under suspension. If their demands were not met tough action would be adopted including countrywide strike and indefinite courts boycott.

Lawyers tortured police men and injured six of them including a DSP. Police registered cases against more than 100 lawyers for torturing police men.
