SIALKOT: Four days have passed the dozens of the surrounding villages along the banks of the swollen Naullah Baeen including Noor Kot, Bhagwanpur, Chakra, Pindi Gulshan, Khataariyaan, Nathu Kot, Beli Shajwal, Kot Bhajna and Dhalla Bora were lying disconnected in Shakargarh due to the wash out of the only Pulli (small bridge) along the banks of Naullah Baeen.
The said Pulli was recently constructed by a local contractor with total cost of Rs.4.4 million there near Pindi Gulshan village which was eroded in the faster flow of flood water in adjacent Naullah Baeen four days ago. The Pulli was meant for connecting the dozens of the surrounding villages with Shakargarh.
Local people, including most of them flood affectees, believed that the contractor had used substandard material in its construction, due to which it flowed with the faster flow of flood water there.
The above-mentioned villages were still lying disconnected there for the last four consecutive days, due to which the local people were using a boat there near village Pindi Gulshan there for their movement from a place to another place.
Expressing grave concern over this critical situation, the local people today lodged a strong protest against the alleged use of substandard material in the construction of said Pulli, the only main linkage of the dozens of the surrounding villages, which eroded in the faster flow of flood water.
The affected people of the said Shakragarh villages staged a protest demonstration by burning tyres there on Noor Kot-Pindi Gulshan-Chakra Road.
They urged the Punjab Chief Minister Shehebaz Sharif and Commissioner Gujranwala Division Shamail Ahmed Khawaja to look into the matter, in the large interest of the local affected villagers.
