Larkana: Both Lithotripsy machines are out of order at the Urology Ward of the Chandka Medical College Hospital. One substandard machine was supplied by M/s: Ontec of Karachi was forcibly sent by Health Department to Chandka Medical College Hospital without their requirement during 2011-12 and soon it went out of order.
The Health Department has been constantly approached by the CMCH administration to contact the supplier and get it repaired for the benefit of the poor patients but nothing has been done as yet by them thus they have ignored the SOS resulting loss to the patients and the tax-payers money as its contract was signed by them (Health Department) and only they know its terms & conditions.
Sources told PPI that CMCH approached another supplier to get the machine repaired but the contractor demanded eleven hundred thousand rupees for its repair for which no budget is available neither it has been sanctioned by the Health or Finance departments despite several written requests.
Another Sigma Lithotripsy machine procured during 2009-10 has also completed its one million shocks recently and is out of order since last five days.
The Urology department has been writing to CMCH authorities for changing magnetic shock wave of the Lithotripsy machine immediately so that poor patients should not suffer which is expected to be replaced next week. Up to 20 mm or 2 cm kidney stones are crushed with the help of the shocks of these costly machines and as many as 10 patients are benefitted daily. These sources further said that one million shocks are consumed in four months which shows the rush of the patients.
