SIALKOT: Coordinator to Punjab CM for Energy Shahid Riaz Gondal has said that early generation of cheaper electricity is top priority of the PML-N government to get rid of the prolonged energy crisis.
He stated this while talking to newsmen here after visiting the under construction Head Marala Hydro Power Project here. He said that 2000 megawatts electricity would be added to the national grid station during this year, while the present government would resolve the burning issue of power load shedding during the coming three to four years.
He said that the provincial government has identified six different places in Punjab for generating 1320 megawatts power with coal and other resources. He said the government would be able to start generating 500 megawatts electricity with the wastage of sugarcane during a stipulated period of next two years.
While giving briefing about this project to visiting CM’s Coordinator, the Project Director Liaqat Ali told that the construction of Head Marala Hydro Power Project was briskly under way and this plant will start generating power in May 2015 and it would have a capacity of generating the 7.64 megawatts electricity. He said that four turbines would be established at Head Marala Hydro Power Project under the supervision of the Chinese engineers.
