Gujranwala: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the upcoming financial budget 2014-15 will envisage several relief measures for farmers and the business community.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the first turbine of 450 Megawatt Nandipur power project here Saturday, he said these measures will help eradicate poverty and generate economic activities in the country.
The Prime Minister said development will be carried out in all the provinces on equal basis. Gwadar will be brought at par with other developed cities of the country. A modern airport will be established there besides Gwadar will be made a free port.
Turning to initiatives taken in the energy sector, the Prime Minister said it has been decided to speed up the completion of electricity generation projects particularly in the hydel sector.
He said forty billion rupees have been released for the land acquisition of Diamer Bhasha Dam. Similarly, we have decided to undertake work on Dasu dam. These two projects will add 9,000 MW of electricity to the grid.
Nawaz Sharif said the government is also focusing on infrastructure projects. He said ground-breaking ceremony of Lahore-Karachi motorway project will soon be performed. Fifty-five billion rupees have been released for the land acquisition of this project.
He said every possible effort will be made to complete the project during the current tenure. Similarly, we are upgrading Pakistan Railways and a railway line will be laid between Islamabad and Muzaffarabad.
Earlier, the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the first ninety-five megawatt unit of Nandipur Power Project at a ceremony in Gujranwala.
The project was completed in record six months. The project has four units and after two months one unit will become operational adding electricity to the national grid.
Prime Minister lauded the role played by Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab and Captain ®, Muhammad Mehmood, MD Nandi Pur Project, for their untiring efforts in making this miracle happen in such a short period of time. On the request of Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister announced the “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” for Captain ®, Muhammad Mehmood for his relentless hard work and contributions in completion of Nandipur Power Project.
Prime Minister also announced 3 months bonus for the employees of the project.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab, Mr. Wang Ji, Chairman DEC, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Water and Power, Mr. Li Shatong , Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of China, Engr. Khurram Dastgir, Minister for Commerce and Minister of State for Water and Power Mr. Abid Sher Ali also attended the inaugurating ceremony of Nandipur Power Project.
