Rally taken out to mark Mother Earth Day


JAMSHORO: Department of Geology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, took out an awareness rally here on Thursday to celebrate International Mother Earth Day to remind people about the Earth and its ecosystems that provide the human being with life and sustenance.

The rally was taken out from the department which turned into a huge procession while reaching at the mausoleum of Allama II Kazi via central library.

Headed by Prof Dr Azhar Ali Shah, a huge number of students, teachers and people from every walk of life participated in the rally.

The rally aimed at focusing on green cities, mobilizing a millions of people to create a sustainable, healthy environment by greening communities worldwide. Today, more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. As the urban population grows and the effects of climate change worsen, our cities have to evolve.

Addressing the rally, Dr. Azhar Ali Shah said that Mother Earth was a common expression for the planet Earth in a number of countries and regions, which reflected the inter-dependence, existed among human beings to other living species.

He on the occasion requested the people belonging to every walk of life to raise their flamboyant voices to love the Earth.

Prof Muhib Ali Lagari and Shaista Khan in their speeches said it was a chance for society to feel collective responsibility so as to promote harmony and love with nature at the time when they added, the planet was under threat from climate change, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources and other man-made problems.

Prof Sujomal, the coordinator of rally, said the Earth and its ecosystems are providing the dwellers with existence and wherewithal.

On the occasion, Prof Manthar Brohi, Noor Nissa, Aleeza, Mahjbeen and others also spoke and exhorted to promote harmony with nature and the Earth to achieve a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations of humanity.
