Shikarpur: Seven members of a family were shot dead by a group of unidentified armed men near village Kala Kalar village within the jurisdiction of Rustam police station on late Saturday night.
Seven armed men attacked the house of Hussain Bux Marfani with automatic weapons. As a result of discriminative firing, seven members of the family, including Imamuddin Marfani, Musamat Panah Khatoon wife of house master Hussain Bux Marfani, his daughter Abida and his four sons identified as Irshad, aged 8, Nadeem, aged 15, Tikka Khan, aged 12 and Mukeem, aged 18, were killed, while one Musamat Ghulam Sakeena, the sister of house master Hussain Bux Marfani, received serious bullet injuries when they were asleep at their home.
The bodies and the injured were shifted to Shikarpur Civil Hospital for autopsies and treatment respectively.
Later the bodies were handed over to their relatives. The condition of injured Musamat Sakeena was out of danger.
The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained yet. According to the victim family, the attackers belonged to Teghani tribe who suspected that Marfani tribe men were involved in kidnapping of the brother and the nephew of Sardar Tegho Khan Teghani who were later freed from the clutches of the kidnappers and reached their homes.
However, it could not be confirmed from police or any other sources that who were involved in this tragic incident.
SSP Shikarpur Altaf Hussain Leghari told this correspondent that the police were engaged to follow the foot prints of the culprits for arresting them as early as possible. Besides, he denied that the attackers belonged to some particular tribe.
It was known from the sources of victim family that this family was shifted from Jagan area of District Shikarpur to the ill fated village after the dispute was developed between the other relatives belonging to the same tribe from the security point of view.
No FIR was registered till this news was flashed. Further police investigation into the incident was in progress.
