Larkana: The Sindh Chief Secretary, Sajjad Saleem Hotiana, being the competent authority, has issued show cause notice dated: April 30, 2014 to Dr. Ali Gohar Chandio, Senior Medical Officer (BS-18), Surgical Unit-II, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, for allegations of misconduct during the course of inquiry which was conducted by the Health Department Officials for negligence during treatment of Journalist Shah Dahar.
The show cause notice says that during the course of inquiry it was found that you did not examine the patients (deceased a Journalist Shan Dahar) thoroughly and did not bother to trace out the bullet through investigations such as Ultrasound & X-Ray in the absence of exit wound. It further added that you also advised the doctors in Casualty Department to carry on with the conservative treatment of the patient until his vitals become stable and you did not repeat the already noted vitals.
The third allegation levelled against doctor Chandio include that he did not consult his seniors/consultants for management of case. The show cause notice adds that this act amounts to misconduct and warrants action against under the Removal from Service (Special Powers) Sindh Ordinance 2000 and amendment ordinance 2001.
The doctor has been directed to submit reply of the show cause within seven days from the date of receipt of the notice failing which, he has been warned, ex-parte decision shall be taken. He has further been directed to indicate whether he would like to be heard in person.
Reliable sources further said that similar show cause notice has also been issued to Dr. Abdul Ghaffar Kandhro, SMO (BS-18), working as Incharge Rural Health Centre, Badah, as both of them have already been placed under suspension vide Services, General, Administration & Coordination Department, Karachi, Order dated: 30th April, 2014 with direction to report to Health Department.
Journalist Shan Dahar was injured in his hometown, Badah, on the new year night and brought at Chandka Medical College Hospital Emergency Department and expired on new year morning for which journalists community held protests throughout the country to punish those doctors involved in mishandling his treatment.
