SIALKOT: The Sialkot district has topped across the Punjab in ensuring the maximum official wheat procurement during this season. Deputy Director Food Gujranwala Division Ch. Naveed Ashraf told the newsmen here that the food department has yet purchased the wheat worth of Rs. 10.90 billion from the wheat growers and farmers in this region. He said that the Punjab government had fixed 349000 tons as wheat official wheat procurement target for Gujranwala Division’s five Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din and Gujranwala districts and the food department has yet purchased 363299 tons wheat, which was the 101 percent of the official wheat procurement target.
As many as 36, 32 996 gunny bags were issued to the wheat growers and small farmers in this region and the food department has purchased 3632996 bags of wheat (worth of Rs. 10.90 billion) during this wheat season.
He said that the official wheat procurement remained 133 percent in Sialkot district during this season due to which the Sialkot district has topped across the Punjab, in this regard. He said that official wheat procurement was 90 percent in Gujranwala district, 98 percent in Gujarat district, 87 percent in Mandi Bahaud Din district and 102 percent in Narowal district during this season.
He said that though the official wheat godowns have already filled, but the food department was still continuing official wheat procurement at all the 42 official wheat procurement centers established by the provincial government.
