Sibi-Rakhni highway completed after 40 years

SIBI: Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate Sibi-Rakhni highway which has been completed after 40 years. Journey from Sibi to Kohlu would take only four hours. Balochistan Chief Minister is scheduled to open Sibi-Kohlu highway.

Federal governments desirous of Balochistan’s progress and prosperity and bringing it at par with other provinces, always played positive role to provide best travelling facilities to the people.

As roads and highways play key role for economic development of any area, raising standard of living of people and providing them health, education and employment opportunities. Keeping this in view Sibi-Rakhni national highway project was prepared. Its survey was carried out in 1973 and work on this was initiated in 1974. Work remained suspend for security reasons in mountainous area of Kohlu-Rakhni for several years. However after personal efforts of Marri tribal Chief Nawab Changez Marri and former government of Nawaz Sharif started work on the highway. It was again interrupted. But later due to the efforts of provincial and federal governments with commencement of development projects in Kohlu and other areas, work on Sibi-Rakhni highway was also speeded up. From Sibi to Kohlu and Kohlu to Rakhni national highway was completed in December 2014 at a cost of Rupees 4.7 billion with best strategy of National Logistic Cell and fool proof security measures.

Project Director Sibi-Rakhni Highway and Commissioner Sibi Division Ghulam Ali Baloch, Commanding officer NLC, Coordinator Sibi-Rakhni road Col Sajjad Quddus and other senior officers had detailed inspection of the Sibi-Rakhni highway.

Later Commissioner Sibi Division told PPI that this highway is important need of time. After several years of suspension of work on it was undertaken with NLC collaboration in 2005. It is 164 Km long which would link Sibi with Dera Ghazi Khan vis Kohlu, Rakhni, Musakhel reducing travelling distance and travel to Punjab from Balochistan would be possible in very short time and it would also save people’s time and expenses.

Sibi-Rakhni road has also opened a new chapter of progress and prosperity of Balochistan including Sibi. Besides local zamindars, animal holders and local people would get education, health and employment facilities. Highway has been opened for the travellers.

According to reliable sources Prime Minister would formally open Sibi-Rakhni road while Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Balch would inaugurate Kohlu to Rakhni section.
