NAUNDERO: Hundreds of students of Government Boys High School Garhi Khuda Bux boycotted their classes against worst 16-hour electricity load shedding due to which five students fainted on Thursday.
They took out a rally holding Pakistan flag in their hands, blocked Naundero-Ratodero road and held a protest demonstration against SEPCO and WAPDA authorities, alleging that they were ruining their education by resorting to prolonged power outages in violation of declared policy of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif.
Hundreds of students of all the schools of Naundero also came out of their schools as they were unable to study during scorching hot weather and all the schools were closed as they too were unable to attend their classes because of the fact that their uniforms were wet.
The students, who fainted in Garhi Khuda Bux High School, were Asadullah Korejo of 6th class, Mohammad Ismail & Kamran Laghari of 9th class, Waliullah Mangi & Abu Bakar of 7th Class. Seeing their colleagues falling unconscious, other students ran to Head Master’s office and started crying for help. They were provided first aid and allowed to go home. Other students of three other schools felt disheartened and came out of their classes and started chanting slogans against the authorities for wilfully depriving them of their basic right to education.
Watching them protesting, the residents of GKB also joined them in blocking Naundero-Ratodero road due to which all kinds of traffic came to a standstill from both sides and the commuters suffered badly.
Meanwhile, 16-hour power outage daily schedule has been announced for Naundero as well. According to which electricity supply will remain shut between 1.45 to 5.45 am, 7.45 to 11.45am, 1.45 to 5.45 pm and 7.45 to 11.45 pm. This has virtually destroyed business, trade, ice factories and peoples’ daily life.
Worst affected are the students and ice factory owners whose education is suffering.
In yet another development, Shehri Action Committee, consisting of over 15 political and non-political parties, and social welfare organizations, have also condemned in strongest possible words new load shedding schedule as saying that if it is not withdrawn immediately ,they will be forced to hold protest demos, take out rallies and stage sit-ins.
While talking to journalists Ghulam Hyder Narejo, Javed Bhutto, Salim Channo and others said on Thursday that new SEPCO Superintending Engineer Zaheer Shaikh had betrayed the promise made by his predecessor Nazir Soomro and had also started treating residents of Naundero step-motherly for which he should be punished.
