SIALKOT: As many as 22 special task forces SNGPL have caught 1141 accused red handed, stealing gas and have fined them Rs. 620 million after registering cases against them. The separate cases against 81 other accused have also been registered during the ongoing special campaign to halt the gas theft and pilferage in Gujranwala Division’s six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.
According to the senior SNGPL officials, the SNGPL has also submitted separate applications at different police stations seeking early registration of separate cases against 210 more accused for gas pilferage.
They added that the local politically influential, people, factory owners, industrialists, owners of the CNG stations, mills owners and the owners of different shopping plazas, housing schemes and furnace mills are included in the accused caught red handed by SNGPL, while stealing gas directly or indirectly from main gas pipelines.
It was worth mentioning that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has been suffering from a great financial loss of Rs. 65 million every month in Sialkot region and out of which the gas worth of Rs. 33 million was being wasted every month due to gas pipelines’ uncontrolled leakages in Sialkot Region comprising of both neighbouring Sialkot and Narowal districts.
Addressing an important meeting of Sialkot business community recently held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry SCCI, General Manager SNGPL Gujranwala Region Qaisar Masood had admitted that there were several flaws in the gas distribution and supplying mechanism of SNGPL, saying that these flaws could be removed, besides, bringing betterment in this system with the mutual discussion and cooperation by the consumers as well. He added that an end to the gas pilferage in the Sialkot region was still a great challenge for the SNGPL, as the SNGPL’s internal Accountability System was also being upgraded and transparent to nab the black sheep in this company.
GM added to make all out sincere efforts to bring betterment in the infrastructure and services of the SNGPL to facilitate the consumers especially the Sialkot business community, in this regard.
He also pledged to ensure the early establishment of SNGPL Regional Office at Sialkot for catering the needs of the consumers of both Sialkot and Narowal districts.
