District: LB election gaining momentum in District Chakwal

Chakwal: The local bodies’ election was gaining momentum in District Chakwal as Election Commission Pakistan announced to hold election on 30th January.

2287 candidates have already filed their nomination papers for 72 Union Councils and 5 Municipal Committees. The major candidates belonged to ruling party PMLN as 3 to 4 candidates at one seat have filed their nomination papers and PMLN’s local leadership was in a fix as the candidates were demanding party ticket and political pundits were confident that PMLN will face the music while nominating their candidates.

Ex-District Nazim, Sardar Ghulam Abbas appears to be the main opponent on PML-N and his group has filed nomination papers at each and every seat of Union Councils and Municipal Committees.

PTI, PPP, PMLQ and other religious parties failed to bring out candidates and political circles believe that these parties would make adjustments with Sardar Abbas group. It would be a very close and keen contest between the candidates of PMLN and Sardar Ghulam Abbas group and due to the prevailing situation in Punjab province in the last five months, people of District Chakwal who gave one-sided mandate to the PMLN candidates will react very sharply against PMLN.
