Four policemen killed, several injured in Lakhi Marwat attack

LAKHI MARWAT: Four policemen were martyred and five others injured in a terrorist attack on a police station in Lakhi Marwat in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to a report, a gang of armed men attacked Bargai Police Station with hand grenades and rocket launchers in the wee hours. A shootout also occurred between the attackers and police. However, the armed men managed to flee to unknown destination.

The bodies and the injured were brought to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment, respectively. The police collected the evidences and started search for the assailants. Those killed include Moharar sepoy Ibrahim, sepoy Imran, sepoy Sabz Ali and Elite Force official Khairur Rehman. Among injured were Gul Sahib Khan, constables Balqiaz, Ameer Nawaz and Farman Ullah.

Funeral prayers of the slain policemen were held at the Lakki Police line on Sunday morning, which were attended by Regional Police Officer Bannu Syed Ashfaq Anwar, District Police Officer Ziauddin and senior military and civil officials.

KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan have strongly condemned the incident and sought a report of the incident from the provincial police chief. He also expressed sympathies with the victim families. PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari also has condemned the attack on the police. He said that rising incidents of terrorism in KP were a matter of great concern. He underlined the need to eliminate terrorists from the KP province.
