Junior doctors demand following merit in upgrading

Larkana, Sindh: The administration of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana, has up-graded as many as 46 doctors from Basic Pay Scale 17 to 18 without salary benefits and has issued an office order in this connection on February 20, 2014.

Sources said these doctors were appointed as lecturers or demonstrators. The 18th meeting of Syndicate of the SMBBMU decided regarding the up-gradation from BS-17 to 18 who have completed 18 months of service but many doctors have complained that this list includes the blue eyed boys, in which merit was violated. This has created unrest amongst junior doctors.

On the other hand Demonstrators Council of Mahar Medical College Sukkur also demanded in a meeting that all contract lecturers must be regularized by the SMBBMU without loss of time.

They said that old lecturers/demonstrators have been given another contract after the gap of one week which is step-motherly treatment, unjust and violation of rules. They said that if they are not regularized than they will be forced to take to streets.

Sources said 32 other doctors have been awarded honorarium of Rs5000 per month who too are lecturers or demonstrators, while 14 other doctors have been denied this facility owing to the reason that they are doing their post-graduation and are on deputation at certain hospitals including Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana.

The affected doctors whose service have not been regularized or upgraded have demanded of the Sindh Government and SMBBMU authorities to do justice or else they will be forced to seek remedy through court of law.
